THURSDAY AFTER COYOTE SONG
She leaves the room, says the floor slants too far,
brambles cartwheel through her belly.
She’s a serious woman, afraid of falling,
always straightening herself for other people.
But when she tells me she dreamt last night
of screaming, her weight shifts slightly—
